Angelo Solomons

Angelo's art journey started early in January 2016. After purchasing some craft art supplies online he decided to give painting a go.
His woodworking hobby fit right into place when it came to making his first stretcher bars complimented
with some material donated by his brother George Solomons.

He new enough to first prime the canvas before painting. A cherry blossom branch was the first work
completed during that month. Constantly thinking of ways he could improve, a deep delve into painting
commenced.
With his limited supplies the word spread and art supplies quickly came in. Different mediums were like
candy to a kid. Experimenting with everything he could lay his hands on.Eventually oil was the preferred
paint, with the occasional dabble in acrylics and charcoal. Landscapes the preferred subject.
Vowing never to do a portrait after a miserable failure on his first attempt he continued to create
relentlessly. Painting daily after his dayjob. Weekends were dedicated to painting, socializing was a mere
distant memory. Every waking moment was spent thinking of the next piece, the next subject and
formula for his diy painting mediums .
Months passed and as he stood back looking at the garage walls , transformed into his personal gallery,
he realised it consisted mainly of portraits...it snuck into his creative process without giving him an
opportunity to fight back...
So today the preferred subject is female portraiture. Commissions started coming and travelled to
Johannesburg,Durban, Netherlands and multiple states in the USA
Today he still makes, stretches and primes his own canvas. This translates to his passion of “from
foundation to creation...”
